In Nepal, where healthcare access is a significant challenge, especially in rural and remote regions due to challenging terrain, inadequate transportation infrastructure, and a scarcity of medical professionals, telehealth services have become increasingly crucial. Many communities in Nepal face difficulties in obtaining timely and efficient healthcare services. Telehealth, utilising telecommunications technology to offer medical consultations and services from a distance, has the capacity to transform healthcare provision in the nation.

A significant advantage of telehealth in Nepal is its capacity to overcome the geographical distance separating healthcare providers and patients. In remote areas with limited medical resources and skilled healthcare workers, residents can receive remote consultations from doctors and specialists based in urban areas. Many rural Nepalis face challenges accessing healthcare due to lengthy travels and high expenses. Telehealth minimises the necessity for travel, thereby enhancing the accessibility and affordability of healthcare for those residing in isolated regions.

Telehealth not only enhances accessibility but also alleviates the pressure on Nepal's healthcare system, which is already overwhelmed. Urban hospitals and clinics are frequently overcrowded, resulting in extended waiting periods and postponed treatments. By utilising telehealth, medical professionals can diagnose, monitor, and provide consultations to a greater number of patients from a distance. This approach helps relieve the burden on traditional healthcare facilities and guarantees that a greater number of individuals receive prompt medical attention.

Telehealth is essential in handling public health emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic. By offering remote consultations, it minimises the risk of infection and ensures continued access to medical guidance and assistance. Additionally, telehealth can aid in providing mental health services, which are in high demand but often lacking in various areas of Nepal.

In summary, telehealth services play a crucial role in enhancing healthcare accessibility, effectiveness, and fairness in Nepal. Through the utilisation of technology to address physical and logistical challenges, telehealth has the capacity to revolutionise the healthcare sector and enhance the general health of the Nepali people.
